Helping Migrants Manage their Anxieties in COVID-19 Pandemic.. Need of hour
Lakhs of Migrants work in metros and industrial cities like Surat. In the wake of lockdown due to COVID-19 Pandemic, there are hundreds and thousands stranded midway between work place and nativehome. Such a situation leads to a lot of Anxieties and Uncertainties. Working with this population requires to be able to understand psychosocial issues which can be diverse.
A webinar was organized by Psychiatric Department, New Civil Hospital and GMC Surat under District Mental Health Program for all Health Personnel, Medical Officers, Counceller, Nurses, Social Workers, Health Workers, Psychiatrists, Psychologists up to PHC, CHC and District level on how to address Mental Health issues of Migrants under shelter home and relief camp. Morethan 100 participants were joined this webinar.

DEIC, NCH Surat organized a Child Safety Awareness Program on the occasion of Children Day in association with Paediatric Department and Childline 1098 at OPD Waiting area on 16th November, 2019.
Superintendent Dr. Ganesh Govekar, Dean Dr. Jayesh Brahmbhatt, Paediatric HoD Dr. Vijay Shah, RMO Dr. Bharat Patel, ASI Nituben, Childline Director Mr. Deshmukhbhai and Co-ordinator Mr. Prasadbhai, DEIC Nodel Officer Dr. Sandesh Mahipal with DEIC team members and Nursing Students were present. Nursing Coordinators started the program and lighting the lamp. The Director Childline spoke about details of working of childline 1098. Few short films were shown on projector which were greatly appreciated by audiance.
A Pledge was taken by all who were present to protect children against neglact Violence and Abuse. The program ended with Signature Campaign for helping children in distress.

Superintendent Dr. Ganesh Govekar, Dean Dr. Jayesh Brahmbhatt, RMO Dr. Ketan Naik, DEIC Nodel Officer Dr. Sandesh Mahipal and DEIC team members were present at the camp.
Total 45 hearing aids and 4 Tricycles have distributed to needy patients. Hearing aids were fitted by the help of DEIC team members and necessary instructions were given to patients.

Total 105 hearing aids have distributed to needy patients. Hearing aids were fitted by Audiologist Shri Ishwarbhai Chaudhary and necessary instructions were given to patients.

- All the Degnitaries, the audience and DEIC team took the pledge to encourage, support and be helpful, considerate and kind to people with autism and their families. - A Skit was performed by nursing students showing problems of autistic child and how their friend helped and guided the family to take medical help. - A Poem on the life of autistic people and problems they face was very well recited by nursing students.

DELAMANID is a drug which is to be used for Pre XDR TB / XDR -TB/HIV DR TB patients between 6 -17 yrs of age, available free of cost to all indicated patients according to RNTCP guidelines.

Department of pediatric will conduct MR Vaccination sessions from 16th July onwards at OPD – 23 from 9 Am to 1 Pm & 4 Pm to 5:30 Pm daily (Except on Holiday) with well equipped AEFI kit. Senior experienced Vaccinator will give vaccine with AD Syringe which locks automatically after single use. New civil Hospital, Surat is identified as Regional Tertiary care centre for AEFI. To provide early and prompt treatment for AEFI, Department of pediatric has establish AEFI centre at G4 ward adjacent to PICU, which is fully equipped for emergency care management & ventilators. With Prior communication between periphery medical officer & PICU on Duty staff, patient will be directly shift to AEFI centre for further management.

Patient awareness programme was held on 'World Diabetes Day', led through a screening camp for Diabetic Retinopathy.
Department of Ophthalmology, General Medicine and District NCD-CELL at New Civil Hospital Surat celebrated “World Diabetes Day” in unique way by organizing Screening Camp for Diabetes Retinopathy, a leading cause of Preventable Blindness under guidance of Dr. Priti Kapadia, Head Ophthalmology. Fundus Examination with Fundus Photography was carried out using handheld Fundus Camera. Health Education sessions regarding Diabetes as well as importance of Retinal examination on time to prevent blindness was taken by Dr. Tinkal Patel, Head Medicine Department and team. It is a good example of “Helping patients by Quick Screening”. We acknowledge the valuable support from Dr. Jayesh Brahmbhatt, Dean of Medical College, and Dr. M. K. Free HLA TYPING CAMP for THALASSEMIA MAJOR patients was organized by NEW CIVIL HOSPITAL and MAVTAR CHERITABLE TRUST of Surat in collaboration with SANKALP INDIA FOUNDATION BANGLORE.
Aroung 75 families were registered with THALASSEMIA Major and 170 children's sample was taken for HLA test. This camp was supported by Smt Atilaxmi G Majmudar Trust of Surat, Surat Pediatric Association Charitable Trust (SPACT), Healing Hands Children Himatology Oncology Clinic of Surat, SMIMER Hospital of Surat, Academy of Pediatrics Gujarat, Advail Clinic and Saachi Hospital of Surat.

Surat is having highest number of HIV patients in Gujarat and new civil Hospital is managing majority of the load. New Civil Hospital is the only institute in the India, having all National AIDS Control Program activities in a single campus. We are having

3. Centre for Sexually transmitted Disease (Suraksha Clinic–HIV testing and Management)
4. Anti Retroviral Plus Treatment Centre (For Management of HIV positive patients)
5. Blood Bank
6. Oral Substitution Therapy Centre (For management of Intravenous Drug Abusers)
7. Adolescent Friendly clinic (Training of adolescent children)
8. Targeted Intervention Project on Commercial Sex Workers
9. Drop in Centre for People Living with HIV AIDS Network and many more in our institute
Till date we have served to more than 18000 People Living With HIV/AIDS at ART PLUS Centre and providing all care to PLWHA at free of the charge since 2008. We are doing CT scan, MRI, and other costly investigation Free of the cost and other institutes had followed us. Only Institute in the state is having "Hemo Dialysis Facility for HIV patients". We are having national training centre for Lab technician for Partec Cyflow Machine and Regional training centre for AQUAS.
We have received many awards from Gujarat State AIDS Control Society for Best ART Centre, Best STI Clinic, Best PPTCT Clinic, Best Senior Medical Officer, best Counselor, etc. We have educated overseas students from Germany, Poland, Portugal, Italy, Britain, USA, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia on HIV and related subjects. We have conducted and facilitated many research projects with international universities also.
Today, on World AIDS Day, we have conducted various awareness programs for society. We have invited Radio Channel "Big FM" and RJ Hiren to join us for awareness activities. They entertained our patients and gave educational kit to Children. We also paid the tribute, by enlightening Candles, to the patients, whom we lost in last 10 years.
First time in India we have launched project for Sero discordant Couple (One of the partner in the couple is HIV positive and another one is HIV negative), named "+Jeevansaathi". The motive of the project is to make life of sero discordant couple joyful, stress free and to prevent HIV transmission to negative partner and to prevent parent to child transmission of HIV. We have also conducted HIV awareness rally within campus and performed skit to spread awareness for HIV.
We are committed to provide quality services to our PLWHA patients and we will continue our efforts to control epidemic of HIV.

Intensified Diarrhea Controlled Fortnight on 31.07.2015 |

New Civil Hospital, Pediatric department of Govt. Medical College and Surat Pediatric Association Charitable Trust Celebrated ORS week, Intensified Diarrhea Controlled Fortnight, teenage day and world breast feeding week.
The idea was to increase awareness of community about use of oral rehydration therapy and zinc in the treatment of diarrhea for prevention of dehydration. We wanted to make community aware about the adolescent problem and importance of breast feeding in the wellbeing and development of children. For that stall was put up at OPD area of New Civil Hospital. Nursing student and medical student make community aware about all this by poster and by talking to relative and patients coming to OPD. A postal competition was also organized for nursing and medical students. Prizes to winners were given at the time of inauguration of the stall. Overall it had a very good impact on increasing awareness on all this aspects. About 5000 ORS packets were distributed to the people coming to OPD after making them aware about its use.
